Asked in Kyiv whether Romania would declassify details of its military assistance to Ukraine, President Nicușor Dan said some information must remain classified for security reasons.
He explained that when a country transfers equipment from its own defense capabilities to another country, "it is sometimes better for that to remain a military secret." Romania's limited transparency on military aid dates back to former President Klaus Iohannis.
While many countries regularly disclose the support they provide to Ukraine, Iohannis consistently argued that Romania should not reveal details because of its proximity to the front line.
In March 2024, he said Romania would not become more transparent about its military assistance, citing the training of Ukrainian F-16 pilots in Romania as an example of sensitive cooperation. He added that making public details about military aid or training activities would not be useful, stressing that Romania is "close to the front" and should not provide information that could benefit those attacking Ukraine.

Speaking with journalists in Kyiv, Romanian President Nicușor Dan acknowledged that the gap between major events and the Romanian authorities' public communication fuels disinformation.
